About Mariachi Royal de Granger

Mariachi Royal de Granger is the premier mariachi ensemble of Granger High School in West Valley City, Utah. Created to celebrate the music, culture, and traditions represented throughout the Granger community, Mariachi Royal provides students with the opportunity to develop as musicians while connecting with one of Mexico’s most celebrated musical traditions.

Our Story

Mariachi at Granger began as a student club in 2024 and quickly grew into one of the school’s most exciting new music programs. The enthusiasm and commitment of its students led to the creation of Mariachi Royal de Granger as an auditioned curricular ensemble, bringing mariachi into the school day and establishing it as a permanent part of the Granger High School Music Program.

Today, Mariachi Royal brings together violinists, trumpet players, vocalists, and armonía musicians performing on guitar, vihuela, and guitarrón. Students study and perform traditional mariachi repertoire while developing the musicianship, ensemble skills, stage presence, and cultural understanding expected of a high-level performing ensemble.

Tradition, Culture & Community

Mariachi Royal is about more than performing music. The ensemble reflects the community it represents.

Granger High School serves one of Utah’s most diverse student populations, and mariachi has created an opportunity for students to see their own cultures and traditions represented within the school’s music program. For some students, mariachi connects them with music they have known throughout their lives; for others, it provides an opportunity to experience and develop a respect for a musical tradition that may be new to them.

The ensemble regularly represents Granger High School at school events, community celebrations, cultural events, festivals, and performances throughout Utah. Through every performance, our students strive to share the joy, energy, and tradition of mariachi while representing Granger and West Valley City with pride.

Building Something for the Future

Mariachi Royal is part of a growing mariachi movement in Utah. Our goal is not only to build an outstanding ensemble at Granger, but also to help create more opportunities for young mariachi musicians throughout the state.

Through performance, education, outreach, and participation in events such as the Utah State Mariachi Festival, Mariachi Royal students are helping demonstrate that mariachi belongs alongside band, orchestra, and choir as an important part of music education in Utah.
